Columbus Screening | One of the most important films of the 21st century.
Kogonada began as a video essayist and gradually evolved into a filmmaker.
It can be said with certainty that all three of his films so far are significant works of contemporary cinema. I recently wrote about After Yang, and that film completely overwhelmed me. Certain scenes seemed to lift my soul and leave it suspended in a strange state of motion.
His first film was Columbus, one of the most distinctive films of the 21st century. I have seen a similar kind of outward gaze in Antonioni, but Kogonada’s treatment of physical space is entirely his own.
There is also an interesting connection between Kogonada’s Columbus and Abbas Kiarostami’s The Wind Will Carry Us. We can talk about that connection during the screening.
We are screening Columbus this Saturday morning at 10 AM.Those who are interested and available are welcome to join us.
